Improvisation: Exploration of Memories (1/10/13) and (7/10/13)

Pictured above were all thoughts that sprang to mind, and feelings from this session. We focused mainly on 'getting to know each other' exercises, and were thrown slightly out of our comfort zone, or mine at least, by working an improvised score of walking in the space, pausing and saying something about ourselves and any memories we had at a certain age.

These were my memories:

"When I was 12, I went to Tenerife with my parents. We went to loads of outings, one of them being a dolphin show. This was the holiday I got food poisoning and it's significant because of that."

"When I was 18, I had a hall party with family and friends."

"When I was 5, I went to a caravan site with my family in Wales. I remember my aunt pushing me down the slide, this is one of my earliest memories."

When I was 15, I got my first boyfriend, lasted for 6 months."

It was a nice session to just reflect and be made aware of the person I am today and that my memories make me the person I am today. It was a challenge to talk about myself for a lengthy period of time in front of the majority of the people in my class and 1st years who I didn't know very well. I find it hard to talk about myself in general, and always draw blanks on memories, and I think that's interesting to notice.

7/11/13

Fantastic session of folding and unfolding - set my own personal challenge of finding ways to move through the floor. Gained in confidence the more we explored, becoming more adventurous, used soft hands and feet.

I liked moving while being kinaesthetically aware of my partner close to me with occasional bouts of contact, they were like little moments between us, a relationship in space.

Main moments were that I had a close encounter with John in a whole group Improv score, where we seemed connected in terms of awareness of each other and bounced off each other movement wise, it became like a contact duet. Enjoyed slow, soft movements.

'Connected, architecture of the body, soft hands, folding and unfolding, felt alive, bones, kinaesthetic awareness, bouts of contact' were all words I took away with me.
